What exactly is a Life Block?+
A Life Block is a permanent, numbered record of a single human life — yours, someone you love, or a historical figure who deserves to be remembered. Think of it as a capsule of someone's humanity: their story in their own words, photos, voice recordings, video, handwriting, documents, and links to the people and places that mattered to them. Every block has a unique number that is locked the moment it's claimed and never changes — in any version of this project, for as long as the chain exists.
Why $1? What does that actually get me?+
$1 claims your permanent place in the chain and funds the foundation we're building. We made it $1 because the whole point of the Human Life Chain is that it includes everyone — not just people who can afford a premium product. Your block number is yours forever. The content — photos, stories, voice, video — gets built out as we develop the platform. Early claimants will be the first to access those features. If you want to give more, there's an optional field to contribute any additional amount directly to the build.
What does "permanent" actually mean? How do I know this won't disappear?+
Permanence is the whole point — and it's the hardest promise to keep, which is why we take it seriously. The chain is built on infrastructure designed for long-term archival storage, with cryptographic linking between blocks so the record can't be quietly altered or deleted. We're also building the governance model so that the chain outlives any single company, including us. The $1M foundation goal funds that infrastructure. The $1B long-term goal funds the endowment that keeps it running in perpetuity.
What's the difference between a Living block and a Deceased block?+
Every Life Block carries a status: Living or Deceased. Living blocks pulse with a green indicator — this person is here, their record is active and growing. Deceased blocks are marked with a quiet gold — settled, complete, permanent. When someone passes, their block transitions from Living to Deceased, timestamped and confirmed by their connections. That transition becomes part of the record itself. You can claim a block for yourself while you're alive and continue adding to it, or claim one for someone who has already passed.
Can I claim a block for someone else — a family member, a historical figure?+
Yes — and this is one of the most powerful use cases. Claim a block for your grandmother. For your best friend. For a figure in history whose story deserves a permanent home. The block becomes a gift — a place in the permanent record of humanity, numbered and preserved forever. Many people will claim blocks for family members who have passed, as a way of ensuring their story is never lost. We'll also be building family tree linking, so blocks can be connected to show the relationships between lives.
How does the connections and verification system work?+
Each Life Block can be linked to other blocks — family, friends, colleagues, mentors. When enough people who know you link their blocks to yours and confirm the connection, your block becomes verified: a cryptographically confirmed record that this person was real. This is peer-to-peer, human-powered verification. No government required, no corporation in the middle. The more connections a block has, the stronger its verification.
Why does verification matter? What does this have to do with AI?+
As AI-generated identities, synthetic profiles, and deepfakes become indistinguishable from real people, the world will increasingly need a way to prove that a human being actually existed. The Human Life Chain is being built to serve that need — a permanent, verified, tamper-proof record of real human existence. Not controlled by any government or platform. In the age of AI, that is infrastructure as important as any we have ever built.
What's the Humanity Capsule?+
The Humanity Capsule is what makes a Life Block more than a profile page. It's the collection of artifacts that give people a real taste of who someone was: their voice (even 60 seconds of someone speaking is more powerful than anything written about them), their photos, a video, their handwriting, letters, documents. The things that can't be faked and can't be forgotten. We're building the Humanity Capsule into every Life Block as a core feature.
Why compare this to the Human Genome Project?+
Because the comparison is exact. The Human Genome Project set out to map the complete genetic blueprint of the human species — scientists called it impossible, it finished fifteen years early, and it changed biology, medicine, and our understanding of ourselves forever. The Human Life Chain sets out to map the complete human record — every life, every story, every connection. Also called impossible. The Genome Project mapped what we are made of. We are mapping who we were.
What is the $1M goal for? And what's the $1B goal?+
The $1M foundation goal — one dollar from one million people — funds the core infrastructure: the platform, the storage architecture, the team, and the first real version of the Life Block editor. The $1B long-term goal funds the endowment: the permanent operating infrastructure that keeps the chain running for centuries, the partnerships with institutions and governments, and the expansion to bring all 108 billion lives into the record. $1M is the start. $1B is what makes it last forever.
What is No Life Left Behind?+
No Life Left Behind is our hardship assistance program. The Human Life Chain only works if it actually includes everyone — and $1, while intentionally accessible, is still a barrier for some people. Through No Life Left Behind, people who can afford to give more can sponsor free Life Blocks for people who can't. Sponsored blocks are claimed exactly like paid ones — same permanent number, same record, same chain. If you need a free block, you can apply with no questions, no means testing, and no shame.
What happens after I claim my block today?+
You'll receive an email confirming your Life Block number — permanent and yours from that moment on. As we build the platform, early claimants will be the first to access the Life Block editor: the place where you add your story, photos, voice, video, and connections. We'll keep you updated at every milestone. You are not buying a finished product — you are founding something. Your block number will reflect that. The lower the number, the earlier you believed.
